The passiflora edulis originates from the north of Argentina. In tropical and subtropical regions it is a well-known plant because of its sweet fruits, also called passion fruit. In the first year after flowering, delicious passion fruits appear. The dark purple fruits taste fresh and sweet. In addition to the delicious fruits, the plant also has large, white flowers with purple and blue stripes. These flowers grow from July to September. The fruit then grows from about September to October. The Passiflora edulis is evergreen and this means that the plant is covered with green leaves all year round. It is a climbing plant: the plants attach themselves and quickly cover a trellis or a wall. They are strong and fast growers and produce many flowers. Plant them in a pot or open ground. The passiflora plants can grow up to 3 to 4 meters high. The Passiflora edulis is also attractive to bees and butterflies.
